#5-Setting Up Your AI Provider

Connect your AI provider to Novus AI and configure the API credentials required for your Discord assistant to generate AI-powered responses.

Setting Up Your AI Provider

Novus AI requires an AI provider to generate intelligent responses for your Discord community.

Before your assistant can begin answering questions, you need to configure a supported AI provider and provide the required API credentials.

Step 1: Open Your Server Configuration

Sign in to Novus AI and go to My Discord Servers.

Find the Discord server you want to configure and select Configure.

Open the AI configuration section where your AI provider settings are available.

Step 2: Select Your AI Provider

Choose one of the AI providers supported by Novus AI.

The available providers may depend on the current version of Novus AI and the features available to your account.

Each Discord server can use its configured AI provider for generating responses.

Step 3: Enter Your API Key

After selecting your provider, enter the API key associated with your AI provider account.

An API key allows Novus AI to securely send requests to the selected AI service on behalf of your configured assistant.

Make sure you copy the API key correctly.

An invalid, expired, restricted, or disabled API key may prevent Novus AI from generating responses.

Keep Your API Key Private

Your AI provider API key should be treated as private information.

Never post your API key in:

  • Discord channels

  • Knowledge Base articles

  • AI instructions

  • Public documentation

  • Screenshots shared publicly

  • Messages sent to other users

Only enter your API key in the designated Novus AI configuration field.

If you believe your API key has been exposed, revoke or replace it through your AI provider as soon as possible.

Step 4: Configure the AI Model

If model selection is available for your selected provider, choose the AI model that Novus AI should use.

Different models may have different capabilities, usage limits, response speeds, and costs.

Choose a model that is supported by your provider account and appropriate for your community's usage.

Step 5: Save Your Configuration

After entering the required AI provider information, save your configuration.

Novus AI will use the saved provider settings when generating AI-powered responses for that Discord server.

API Usage and Provider Limits

Your AI provider may apply its own:

  • Usage quotas

  • Rate limits

  • Token limits

  • Billing requirements

  • Model restrictions

  • API availability limits

These limits are controlled by your AI provider and are separate from any Novus AI subscription or feature limits.

If your provider rejects an API request, Novus AI may be unable to generate a response until the provider issue is resolved.

Common Provider Problems

If Novus AI cannot generate AI responses after configuring your provider, check the following:

  1. Verify that your API key is correct.

  2. Make sure the API key is active.

  3. Check that the selected AI model is available to your provider account.

  4. Verify that your provider account has available API usage or quota.

  5. Check whether billing is required by your provider.

  6. Save the configuration again after making changes.

AI Provider vs. Knowledge Base

Your AI provider and Knowledge Base perform different roles.

The AI provider supplies the AI model that understands questions and generates responses.

The Knowledge Base contains the information specific to your Discord community that Novus AI can use when answering those questions.

For the best results, both should be properly configured.

AI Provider Setup Complete

Once your AI provider is configured and saved, Novus AI has the AI service required to generate responses.

The next step is to test your configuration and make sure Novus AI can successfully respond inside your Discord server.
